Love British comedy? - In this course you'll dip into the comedic works of Fry and Laurie, Hale and Pace, Monty Python, Rowan Atkinson, French and Saunders, to name but a few.
You'll explore what makes comedy tick, and how to develop your comedic timing as an actor. You'll also discover some British playwrights known for their humour in the theatrical setting. Each week you'll look at a different comedy group or artist and you'll work towards a theatrical performance of scenes in your final week.
WHEN: Tuesday nights for eight weeks, from July 23 - 10 September - with a performance on 10 September

About Your Tutor
James Scott is an actor, director and teacher. He is co-founder and Director of Artistic Development at Perform Australia. He holds a Diploma of Performance from the Actors' College of Theatre and Television and a Master of Arts Practice in Acting from Charles Sturt University, as well as a Diploma in Vocational Education and Training. James's performance credits include a wide range of stage and screen projects over more than 25 years of performance. Most recently he has been seen in 'Lies, Love and Hitler' (2010, 2014), 'The Complete Works of William Shakespeare Abridged' (2015), 'Underneath the Lintel (2015), 'Henry Five' (2016), 'It's A Wonderful Life: The Live Radio Play' (2017), 'Mistakes Were Made' (2018), and 'The Woman In Black' (2019). He has also recently participated in several play development projects at The Street Theatre, Canberra, and also writes some of his own work.

Acting in comedy - what could be more fun than that? You'll have a chuckle as you read through the scripts, workshop them, and work out how to deliver them successfully. Do you need to be a natural comedian to do this course? No. It's about the acting. And even if you don't think of yourself as a barrel of laughs, you'll learn some techniques around comic timing and explore what makes something funny.

Your tutor on this course is Canberra's most experienced acting tutor and and one of the city's most praised performers. So he knows what he's talking about. He'll help you improve your acting technique as he directs you through a range of scenes, and will show you how to get the most from your performance.

What's better than getting up on stage and strutting your stuff? You'll get to perform in our theatre for family and friends on the last week of the course, demonstrating what you've learned in the weeks prior.
