Let's get your young actor started with Company acting classes in Canberra!
When you become a member of Company, you'll be applying and refining your acting skills in a wide range of theatrical and cinematic styles. You'll be learning through scene work, improvisation, monologues, acting for camera, mask and mime, and character development. Screen work involves learning the skills of acting for camera, as well as presenting duologues and monologues which can be watched back and analysed.
Script content varies from term to term, but may involve anything from investigation of current social issues, through to exploring familiar character types and archetypes, heightened language, and how to create believable performances.
Actors in company would be well-prepared to move on to our Certificate IV in Acting for Stage and Screen if they so choose.
Learning Program 2020
Term 1 - Exploration Term
In Term 1, students will source characters from movies, animations, computer games, and books that entertain and interest them. Taking these characters into a range of situations, students will learn scene-building techniques and explore how to portray roles different from ourselves. Attention will be paid to developing vocal skills, physical embodiment of characters and generating creative ideas as actors. Parents are invited to an open class at the end of the term to observe what students have been working on.
Term 2 & 3 - Production Terms: Be in a play!
During Terms 2 and 3, students will work towards a short play to be performed in the Perform Australia Theatre (in Fyshwick) at the end of Term 3. We'll prepare the script, cast the play, apply our acting skills, work on our voices, experience the rehearsal process and stage a show! Core skills include team work, problem solving and empathy with other points of view. Students will experience performance in our professional theatre environment, complete with lights, sound and costume! Students wishing to appear on stage must commit to the Company class for both terms.
Term 4 - Lights, Action, Camera!
Term 4 is our screen acting term. Take on a character, learn lines in a short script, find out about acting for the camera, and create a short film to keep as a memento of all your hard work.
