Express Yourself with Footlights Acting Classes (ages 10-13)
Footlights is our acting program for 10-14 year-olds.
In a theatre, the "footlights" are set at the base of the stage and illuminate actors from below... so this program is all about giving you the chance to shine! A key focus for your age group is Express - learning to express yourself as an actor, and as a person.
You'll be taught professional acting skills by a trained actor. You'll acquire the important skills of the actor:
Not only this, but each term is built around an important value or life skill - we call this the "hidden curriculum". While having fun with drama games, acting exercises and performance, you'll also be learning about what it means to be a respectful and respected person, through drama.
Star of the Scene
Every play and film is made up of scenes. And every actor needs to master the skills of the scene! This term you'll work on scenes with classmates which you'll perform at the end of the term for family and friends. You'll get to be the star of the scene!
PERFORMANCE: In-Class performance
Body & Voice
We call the Body and Voice the 'Actor's Instrument'. This term you'll learn new ways to use your body, face and voice to communicate characters to your audience. At the end of the term you'll present an Open Class to your family and friends to demonstrate your acting skills.
PERFORMANCE: Open Class Demonstration
Now it's time to get serious about performing! You'll work on a short play and be part of a theatre show or livestreamed show (COVID permitting), playing a character and enjoying an audience!
PERFORMANCE: Stage Performance
Increase your ability to think on your feet and express yourself "Impro" or "Improv" is acting without a script - tremendous fun and a challenge for every actor. Learn to come up with ideas on the spur of the moment and tell stories to your audience

"Our daughter has been attending this school for three years now. The programs both weekly and school holiday programs have been outstanding. She has developed some wonderful skills and confidence. Drama is her thing, her place where she can just be herself. Thank you to all the staff who have had such a positive influence in her development."
