Imagine yourself on stage or screen...

Company   is a term used to describe a group of actors... and in Perform Australia's Company classes you'll learn what it means to act with others. Our weekly acting classes for teenagers aged 14-17 are available in Canberra.

Each week you'll work on the art of the actor:

  • Learning how to look 'real' when you act
  • Learning how to present comic as well as dramatic characters
  • Using specialist acting techniques to deliver stronger performances
  • Understanding stage and screen in greater depth
  • Becoming a more confident performer in front of others.

You'll learn from trained actors and directors, and feel yourself growing in confidence as a performer, with every new acting challenge.

While other drama schools may just plop you on stage in a show, at Perform Australia, we actually teach you how to act. Acting is a huge creative field with lots to learn - there are different techniques, forms, and ways into acting. Each term we focus on a new set of specific skills you need to become a better and better actor.

If you're interested in becoming a professional actor too, we can help and advise you with that.

Not only this, each term you'll explore an important themes through acting that will deepen you as person and help you learn more about yourself.

The Program

Read on to find out about our program for this year...

Term 1

Dynamic Theatre
This term you'll deep dive into some of the key elements of acting: using your voice, sound, space and movement to communicate stories. You'll learn a range of acting techniques and apply your skills to the performance of a well-known tale in a dynamic way at the end of the term.

PERFORMANCE: End-term in-class performance in the last week.

Term 2

Sensational Scenes
How does an actor make a scene memorable and believeable? This term you'll explore character development and emotional authenticity en route to discovering what makes a scene tick. Scenes, after all, are the building blocks of every theatre, film and TV show you've ever seen!

PERFORMANCE: In-class scene performance in the last week

Term 3

Performathon
Now it's time to get serious about performing! You'll work on a short play and be part of a theatre show at the Tuggeranong Arts Theatre, playing a character and enjoying an audience!

PERFORMANCE:  'Performathon' is a week of live performances (21-27 September) from all our classes around Canberra. Your child's class will be allocated a performance date during that week and will perform a scripted work in the theatre. Students must learn lines by the date given by their teacher and be ready to perform on the performance date.

Term 4

Laugh Out Loud
This term is all about learning the art of making people laugh and having a blast on stage. In our Term 4 unit on 'comedy', we'll discover how to be funny and perform comedy like a pro. It's a journey that encourages creativity, spontaneity, and the amazing ability to bring joy and laughter to both the audience and us, the performers.

PERFORMANCE:

End-term open class demonstration of skills in the last week of term

What our students and their parents say

Archie van Buisen

“Perform Australia has helped me by making it really fun and I always want to go to the classes because they're great... it's taught me so much. I also had the chance to do a short film, and if it wasn't for Perform Australia, I wouldn't have had the chance. Thank you!"

Archie, Company student

Michelle

"As his parents we’d like to add that acting is the only thing that Archie loves doing other than being with his friends - and we thank you for all the many opportunities you have been able to give him. ”
