Continue your training

To build a career as a professional actor, you need not only talent, but also technique and business nous. In our 11017NAT Advanced Diploma of Performance, we nurture your existing talent and dramatic instinct, and help you develop the processes and disciplines you need to take your career where you want it to go. We also guide you through need-to-know industry information and how to launch your own performance projects.

Before starting the Advanced Diploma of Performance, you need to complete the 10915NAT Certificate IV in Acting. Then you can level-up to this 18 month full-time course.

In the Advanced Diploma, our goal is to transform you into a versatile actor, able to embrace performance opportunities across a wide range of media.

In this course, you will learn:

  • How to take your acting technique further - Building on the foundation you laid in the Certificate program, you'll learn additional techniques to add to your toolkit

  • How to develop more confidence as a screen actor - By participating in 100 hours of screen practice, you'll feel more and more confident in front of the camera.

  • How to master your theatre skills - You'll participate in at least six live performances on stage, using all your theatrical techniques, and exploring a range of genres, including Australian works, Shakespeare, Absurdism, and many others.

  • How to devise new works - You'll learn how to create a new work from scratch through an amazing process of collaboration

  • How to speak in a range of accents - Master American, British and foreign accents to diversify the roles you can play and where you can work

  • How to develop a stronger voice - Continue to gain control over your voice,  improve your articulation, vocal resonance and projection; also learn voiceover artistry and singing.

  • How to think of yourself as an actor and a businessperson - You'll learn about the business of acting - how to find work, how to promote yourself and your brand, how to raise money for projects, and how to work as a freelancer.

  • Some auxiliary skills for the actor - Explore additional skills like stage combat and TV presenting, so that you can diversify your employment prospects
