Tom Barker
Teaching Artist
Tom Barker brings an energetic and versatile background in both stage and screen production and performance, and is constantly seeking new ways to merge these two passions. Since graduating from the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in 2019 with an Advanced Diploma, he has built an exciting and diverse career in the arts. His experience spans crewing backstage at The Canberra Theatre Centre, directing actors in short films, appearing as a background extra in local television productions such as ABC’s AUSTIN, and touring with Hudson’s Circus as a stagehand, magician’s assistant and animal wrangler. Not many people can say they truly lived their childhood dream of running away with the circus — but Tom proudly can!

Most recently, Tom collaborated with Perform Australia and the Acting for Screen unit students to produce a short film for the annual Lights! Canberra! Action! Film Festival. The project was selected for the Top 10 screening in March 2025, marking an exciting milestone and highlighting his passion for creative collaboration and emerging talent.
