Company
'Company' is a term used to describe a group of actors... and in Perform Australia's Company classes you'll learn exactly what it means to act with others!

While other drama schools may just pop you on stage in a show, at Perform Australia, we actually teach you how to act.
Acting is a huge creative field with lots to learn - there are different techniques, forms, and ways into acting.
Each term we focus on a new set of specific skills you need to become a better and better actor.

Your weekly class is 1.5 hours long.
How it works
Some of the things you'll cover include:
-
Learning how to present comic as well as dramatic characters
-
Improving your voice and movement as an actor
-
Using specialist acting techniques to deliver stronger performances
-
Understanding stage and screen in greater depth
-
Becoming a more confident performer in front of others.

Each term we have a performance outcome at the end of the term, which is performed in the location where the class takes place - EXCEPT for the term of our major performance where go to a theatre and have a gala performance!
Yes, that means you'll get to act under lights and sound, experience backstage life, and learn all about what happens in a theatre.

The Program - 2026
We are “Going Big” at Perform Australia in 2026

Going Big is about helping young performers step fully into their voice, body and imagination. Across all age groups, our drama program encourages students to make bold choices — physically, emotionally and theatrically — so their stories are clear, confident and engaging for an audience. We focus on expressive movement, truthful emotional connection and fearless performance, balancing fun with strong acting technique. By learning when and how to “go big”, students build presence, confidence and creativity, developing the skills to perform with clarity, commitment and joy both on stage and beyond.

Term 1
Going Big: Less Talk, More Action
This physically driven term challenges actors to work beyond the script. Using movement, gesture, mime and spatial composition, students develop strong physical presence and expressive clarity.
The focus is on commitment, risk-taking and using the body as a storytelling tool. This term will help performers to expand their range, deepen stage presence, and break out of habitual or restrained performance.

Performance:
In-class demonstration for family at the end of the term.
TERM 2
Going Big: Inner Life, Outer Truth

This term focuses on translating inner thought into clear, readable action. Students work with intention, subtext and physical response to ensure their acting communicates effectively to an audience.
Through structured scene work and performance exercises, actors develop precision, emotional clarity and consistency, strengthening their ability to make purposeful choices that support truthful, compelling performance.

Performance:
In-class scene presentation at the end of term
TERM 3
Performathon
Live Performance On Stage at the Perform Australia Theatre in Tuggeranong

"Performathon" is our annual festival of live performance, where all our classes perform on stage in a real theatre!
This term, students are cast in and rehearse a short play, exploring how to bring stories to life in stage performance.
It's a fantastic way to apply the skills they've been learning all year, plus experience the excitement of preparing costumes, waiting backstage, performing under lights, and hearing the applause at the end of the performance!

Performance:
14-19 September
Perform Australia Theatre, Reed St N, Tuggeranong
TERM 4
Going Big: Larger Than Life
This term is all about turning everything up to eleven.
Actors dive into the bold, ridiculous and brilliant worlds of melodrama and pantomime, playing oversized characters, huge emotions and clear storytelling.
With a focus on comic timing, status and fearless commitment, students learn how to go big on stage without losing control. It’s energetic, challenging and a whole lot of fun — the perfect way to finish the year performing with confidence and flair.

Performance:
In-class scene work presentation at the end of the term
What families say about our acting classes
From Archie
"Perform Australia has helped me by making it really fun and I always want to go to the classes because they're great... it's taught me so much. I also had the chance to do a short film, and if it wasn't for Perform Australia, I wouldn't have had the chance. Thank you!"

From Michelle
"As his parents we’d like to add that acting is the only thing that Archie loves doing other than being with his friends - and we thank you for all the many opportunities you have been able to give him. ”
