Kids Acting Classes
What does a typical acting class look like?
Our acting class sessions generally include a check-in, warm-up, technique work and script work or rehearsal, depending on the student's age and the focus of the class.
We send parents a weekly class summary with a list of activities children did in class and what those activities are teaching the students.
Does my child need prior experience?
No. Prior acting or performance experience is not required for our acting classes. We welcome students of all experience levels, including beginners.
Each term, we welcome new students to join our classes, as we explore different themes and activities throughout the year. This means students can join at the beginning of a new term without needing to have attended previous terms.
Our classes are designed to help students build confidence, creativity and performance skills in a supportive and enjoyable environment.
How much does the class cost each term?
Our current term fees are:
-
Razzle Dazzlers: $310 per term
-
Footlights: $310 per term
-
Company: $375 per term
What happens when a class falls on a public holiday?
We do not run classes on public holidays. When a public holiday falls on a scheduled class day, the invoice or term fee is adjusted accordingly, so you are not charged for that class.
Where are the classes held?
We run classes at our main studio in Tuggeranong, as well as at venues across Canberra and in Queanbeyan.
Our Canberra class locations include Kingston, Weston, Pearce, Gungahlin, Melba and Hughes. Class days and times vary at each location. Please check the class listings for the class day and time.
What if my child misses a class? Do you offer make-up classes?
We do not offer make-up classes for student-related absences.
Whom should I notify if my child cannot attend a class?
If your child is unable to attend a class, please call us on 1300 908 905 or email us at hello@perform.edu.au to let us know.
Can my child do a trial class before enroling?
Absolutely! Trial classes are available depending on whether there is a place available in your preferred class and location. The trial class fee is equivalent to the cost of one regular session.
Give us a call or send us an email and we’ll be happy to check the current availability for you.
Can parents sit in the class?
We understand that parents may like to watch, but parents and siblings are not permitted to sit in on classes. This helps create a comfortable environment where students can participate freely without feeling like they are being watched. It also helps protect the privacy of all students in the class.
Do I need to re-enrol my child each term?
No. Our acting class students are automatically re-enroled for the following term, so you don't need to enrol each time again. If your child won't be returning, simply let us know in writing before the next term.
What happens if my child wants to move up to the next age group?
When your child is ready to move into the next age group, we'll usually contact you. You're also welcome to email us if you'd like to check when they're ready to move up.
Musical Theatre for Kids
Does my child need previous musical theatre experience?
No. Previous musical theatre experience isn't required. Our musical theatre program is designed to teach students the skills they need as they work towards a full production, including singing, dancing and acting.
Does my child need to be a strong singer?
Not at all. Musical theatre brings together singing, dancing and acting, so students develop their skills across all three areas. Students learn the show's songs with the musical director and build their performance skills throughout the rehearsal process.
What does a musical theatre class involve?
Each week includes a mix of activities designed to prepare students for the production. Classes begin with a check-in and warm-up, followed by singing and choreography. Students then bring these skills together through script work and rehearsals, gradually building the show over the course of the programme.
How is musical theatre different from the regular acting classes?
Our regular acting classes focus primarily on acting skills and explore different themes and activities each term. Musical theatre is a production-focused program where students work towards performing a specific musical. Along the way, they develop singing, dancing and acting skills and learn about rehearsal procedures and working as part of a production team.
What musical will the students be working towards?
We announce the musical when enrolment opens as we need to complete the licensing process before we can officially announce the production.
What happens if I miss enrolment for the musical theatre program?
Places in our musical theatre class can fill very quickly once enrolment opens.
Enrolment is offered on a first-to-enrol basis, so being a previous student or having participated in one of our past musicals does not guarantee a place in the next production.
If the class is full by the time you enrol, we can add your child to the relevant waiting list. If a place becomes available, we will contact families from the waiting list in order.
Will my child need to audition?
Your child does not need to audition before enroling in the musical theatre class.
Once enroled, auditions are held during Week 2 and/or Week 3, allowing our team to cast the musical and determine the roles that best suit each student.
Everyone enroled in the programme takes part in the audition process.
Can my child do a trial to your musical theatre class before enroling?
Our musical theatre class cannot accommodate trial classes. We require a two-term commitment, as students work together throughout the program towards the final production.
When and where will the performance be held, and what do families need to know?
All performance details, including the performance dates, venue, dress rehearsals, and other important requirements, are provided to families in the musical's information pack.
The information packs are available on the musical theatre class page and are shared with families in advance, so you’ll have everything you need to know for the performance. The information pack is also included in the enrolment confirmation.
