Learn what your voice can do...
In this two-day voiceover workshop, you'll gain an understanding of the fundamentals of voiceover artistry, and how to use your voice in a commercial environment.
You'll learn about the key skills a voice artist needs:
-
How to discuss a voiceover brief with an employer
-
How to analyse a voiceover script
-
How to perform with a range of vocal styles, such as the 'hard sell', the 'soft sell', corporate voices and character voices
-
How to conduct a cold read
-
What equipment you need as a voiceover artist
-
How to use microphones and recording devices effectively
-
And much more
Voiceover skills are workplace skills, and are a great add-on for the actor, YouTuber, presenter/speaker or media worker who wants to maximise the marketability of their voice.

A voiceover artist can work from anywhere in the world - with the right technology at home! Voiceover artists read scripts for:

-
Radio commercials,
-
TV commercials
-
Podcasts
-
Documentaries and other narrations
-
Animations
-
Computer games and apps
-
Theatre productions
-
Shopping centres
-
Public transport announcements
-
On-hold phone recordings, and many other projects.

While some of these may be recorded in a professional studio, others may be put together in the artist's own home. If you can record your voice to the right quality, you can send a file to a client within minutes.
Jen Seyderhelm will explain all this and more!

Reasons to do this course
1 / Voiceover workshops are rare in Canberra.
It's fantastic to have Jen teach this course. Perform Australia is delighted to have her back again in 2025 - it's the only course of its kind in the ACT.
2 / You can gain accreditation.
You can just come along and do this course for fun - but if you would like to receive an accredited Statement of Attainment - we've got you covered!
Perform Australia is a registered training organisation (RT0 40859), which means we can issue nationally recognised qualifications and statements of attainment.
This voiceover course is one unit in our 11017NAT Advanced Diploma of Performance program for actors. It's called NAT11017010 Apply vocal skills in a commercial environment.
So if you would like to receive an official Statement saying you've completed this unit, for your current work or your personal portfolio, you can officially enrol as an accredited student.
To earn your Statement of Attainment, you would have to successfully complete all assessments associated with this course (which includes making your own voice reel).
But if the Statement is not so important to you, and you're not wanting to complete assessments, you can just come along and absorb all the material - and do the course for your own interest, without accreditation.

Let us know at the point of enrolment which option you prefer.
3 / You'll join the Perform Australia community.
When you do a course at Perform Australia, you meet your "tribe". You'll meet other actors and aspiring voiceover artists - people to network with, to work on projects with, and simply to dialogue with. Our students say they enjoy being a part of our artistic community.
4 / You'll develop a new skill set.
This workshop will major on technique; you'll learn the hows and whys of voiceover artistry, and how to make the most of your voice.
5/ You'll develop increased self-confidence.
As you move through this course you'll feel yourself being stretched. Stepping out of your comfort zone, you'll develop an increased sense of confidence in what you can do.
