On Stage

Master the art of stage performance

Learn the processes of theatrical performance

If you've ever imagined yourself on stage in a theatre, now is the time to learn all the skills you need to get started!

Perform Australia's 'On Stage' course is the best place for you to refine your skills en route to professional work in the theatre industry.

We take you on a journey from script, to rehearsal to performance in a working theatre here in Canberra. You'll play one or more characters, work with an ensemble of actors, be directed by a professional director, and work under lights, with set, and an audience. You'll also work on your voice, developing it for the theatrical environment.

What you'll learn

Screen terminology

Do you know your gaffer from your grip? Do you know what a D.O.P is? Or a First A.D.? These terms and more will become clear and before long you'll be using film and TV lingo in no time! You'll be way more confident as an actor when you're on set professionally.

Understand acting for camera

Learn about what the camera detects and how to maximise your eyes, face and body in a screen acting performance. Learn how to adapt your performance to different shot sizes, how to hit your 'mark', and more.

Confidence in front of the camera

Through a range of exercises, you'll develop confidence performing in front of the camera by workshopping different techniques. Plus, you'll develop some screen content that you can use in your portfolio, moving forward.

Understand the screen industry

You'll develop a solid understanding of how film and TV projects come together, what the industry expectations on you as an actor are, and how to meet them. You'll hear storied from your tutor's own experience of many years working in the industry.

Why you should do this course right now

Reason #2: This course is accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA)

Perform Australia is a registered training organisation (RTO 40859), which means we are able to issue qualifications. 'On Stage' covers three subjects within the 10915NAT Certificate IV in Acting. When you join this course, you can opt to enrol as an accredited student, complete the assessments, and at the end, receive a Statement of Attainment for the units. If you prefer to do 'On Stage' for leisure, that's ok too - but please make sure you attend all the required rehearsals as part of your commitment to the course.

Reason #3: Your director is amazing... announced soon!

All our directors at Perform Australia are industry professionals. We're still confirming our director around their other professional commitments this year. We'll publish who it's going to be as soon as the cat is out of the bag!
