Footlights is our acting program for 10-13 year-olds. Our weekly acting classes are available across Canberra and Queanbeyan.
In a theatre, the "footlights" are set at the base of the stage to illuminate actors from below... so this program is all about giving your child the chance to shine!
Students are taught professional acting skills by a trained actor. They'll learn:

Not only this, but each term is built around an important theme - such as Hope or Strength, for example. We call this the "hidden curriculum". While having fun with drama games, acting exercises and performance, you'll also be learning about what it means to be a respectful and respected person, through drama.

Term 1
Imagination Unleashed
This term we dive into the world of theatre through voice, body awareness, use of space, sound and movement. In other words: theatricality. We'll apply all these elements to our end-term performance, as actors, in a well-known tale.

Term 2
Scene Sleuths
What makes a scene memorable and believable? This term we'll hone your scene skills by exploring different characters and the emotions that make scenes come alive. Plus you'll work on a scene for performance at the end of the term!

Term 3
Performathon
Now it's time to get serious about performing! You'll work on a short play and be part of a theatre show at the Tuggeranong Arts Theatre, playing a character and enjoying an audience!
PERFORMANCE: 'Performathon' is a week of live performances (21-27 September) from all our classes around Canberra. Your child's class will be allocated a performance date during that week and will perform a scripted work in the theatre. Students must learn lines by the date given by their teacher and be ready to perform on the performance date.
Term 4
Laugh Out Loud
This term is all about learning the art of making people laugh and having a blast on stage. In our Term 4 unit on 'comedy', we'll discover how to be funny and perform comedy like a pro. It's a journey that encourages creativity, spontaneity, and the amazing ability to bring joy and laughter to both the audience and us, the performers.

It's $295 per term. No classes on public holidays. (Fees are adjusted when these occur.)
